How Crypto Payments with Oobit Work

Wallet connection and payment authorization

Oobit is a crypto payment service that allows users to spend assets from a self-custody wallet at participating card merchants. The user connects a compatible wallet, selects a supported cryptocurrency, and authorizes the payment by signing a transaction. The funds remain in the user’s wallet until the payment is approved.

Settlement process

The payment process uses DePay, a settlement layer designed to connect blockchain transactions with card payment networks. After authorization, the selected cryptocurrency is converted into the merchant’s settlement currency. The merchant receives payment through Visa rails, while the customer’s wallet provides the crypto funds. Network fees, exchange rates, and the final amount should be displayed before confirmation, although availability depends on the asset, blockchain, country, and applicable service terms.

In-store and online use

For in-store purchases, users can use a virtual or physical payment card, including contactless payment where supported. Online payments follow the same general model: the card details are entered at checkout, and the corresponding crypto amount is authorized from the connected wallet. Supported assets can include stablecoins such as USDC and USDT, as well as other cryptocurrencies, subject to regional and service limitations.

Practical considerations

Crypto payments require a compatible wallet, sufficient balance, and an accepted asset or network. Blockchain transactions are generally irreversible, so users should verify the merchant, amount, and wallet authorization before signing. Exchange rates, card acceptance, identity verification, transaction limits, refunds, and settlement times may vary by jurisdiction and payment method.
