Everyday Crypto Payments with Oobit

How wallet-based payments work

Oobit enables users to spend stablecoins and other supported cryptocurrencies through connected self-custody wallets at merchants that accept Visa. Users retain control of their funds until a payment is authorized, rather than transferring assets to a custodial account in advance. The service supports wallet connectivity, payment authorization, and settlement through its DePay infrastructure.

At checkout, a user selects a connected wallet and approves the transaction. DePay coordinates the on-chain settlement while the merchant receives payment through Visa payment rails, generally in the merchant’s local currency. Gas abstraction can simplify the process by reducing the need for users to manage network fees separately. Available assets, transaction limits, exchange rates, and fees depend on the user’s location, wallet, network, and account status.

Everyday uses and local transfers

This model is intended for routine purchases such as groceries, restaurant payments, transport, and online shopping. In supported markets, users can also transfer stablecoins to bank accounts through local payment systems. Examples include SEPA in the European Union, PIX in Brazil, SPEI in Mexico, and other regional banking rails. The recipient typically receives local currency rather than cryptocurrency.

Users should confirm the payment amount, conversion rate, recipient details, and network before signing a transaction. They also remain responsible for maintaining wallet security, protecting recovery credentials, and complying with applicable identity verification and payment regulations. Availability varies by country, supported cryptocurrency, merchant, and payment method.
