Building Crypto Payments Around Local Payment Habits

✓

Oobit, the Tether-backed global payments platform making crypto usable for everyday purchases, has partnered with a Web3 payment infrastructure provider connecting digital assets with real-world payment ecosystems across Asia, to bring crypto payments to QR Ph, the Philippines' national QR payment standard.

Identity-verified Oobit users in the Philippines can now pay with crypto by scanning the same QR Ph codes accepted by local merchants nationwide, while those merchants continue receiving payments in local currency.

The integration extends Oobit's existing acceptance at more than 150 million Visa merchants worldwide, adding domestic QR rail support in one of Southeast Asia's most widely adopted digital payment networks. The move reflects Oobit's broader strategy of pairing global merchant acceptance with the domestic payment rails consumers already use in individual markets.

Instead of introducing a new checkout experience, the partnership lets verified users pay with crypto directly on QR Ph, the payment infrastructure Filipino consumers and merchants already rely on.

"Crypto that only spends where a card terminal exists isn't crypto that spends everywhere. Local rails are how billions of people already pay, from QR codes in Manila to markets across the region. Oobit meets them there instead of asking them to change," said Amram Adar, CEO of Oobit.

Building Crypto Payments Around Local Payment Habits

Early activity on QR Ph already spans everyday life rather than a novelty use case. Fast food accounts for 31.1% of completed payments among Oobit users in the Philippines, followed by taxis and rideshare at 13.9%, local transit such as trains and ferries at 11.9%, convenience stores at 11.2%, grocery and supermarket purchases at 4.8%, restaurants at 3.5%, and online marketplaces at 2.5%.

Payment activity also spans a range of digital assets. USDC accounts for 43.2% of completed payments in the Philippines, followed by USDT at 30.2%, OOB at 11.2%, Bitcoin at 7.4%, and Solana at 2.5%, pointing to crypto increasingly being used for routine, everyday transactions rather than solely as an investment asset.

This localized payment model extends beyond the Philippines, giving Oobit users in other markets access to the same crypto-to-local-currency payment experience through regional QR and instant-transfer rails.
